Fish Migration Study:

The MN DNR, Army Corps of Engineers, and Iowa State University are collaborating on a fish migration study in Big Sandy and connected waters, check out the video above and read more about this study here and here.  A final report on this study is expected in 2024.

Fishing Regulations:

Big Sandy currently has special harvest regulations on walleye and panfish.  Refer to the fishing regulations on the MN DNR web site for details.  These special regulations are also posted at the boat launches.

Fish Tagging:

MN DNR has tagged walleye in Big Sandy, some have a metal stick tag sticking out of their backs, and others have a pill-shaped acoustic tag implanted in their belly, if you catch a tagged fish, please record the tag number and report your tag information to the MN DNR.   This information will help the DNR understand fish migration in Big Sandy.
